Alzheimer's, Memory Loss and Dementia Clinic

Located in the Outpatient Services area on B-Level at Bethesda Hospital

Bethesda Hospital
559 Capitol Blvd.
St. Paul, MN 55103

We begin evaluation with a detailed history and review of medical records. Medical, neurological and psychiatric examinations are complemented by intellectual and functional status assessments. Additional studies of the brain may be requested, if necessary.

Since there are many causes for dementia, some patients undergo a detailed exam which includes a screening test of memory and other intellectual abilities, a neurological assessment, brain scan (CT or MRI) and blood tests. These tests help specialists make a diagnosis and initiate treatment.

A new patient evaluation with the physician takes about an hour. Referrals for neuropsychological testing may require four or more hours.

Education and support

Education and support are important tools for patients and families dealing with memory loss. We offer classes and groups geared specifically to those with memory loss conditions and their caregivers.

Educational classes

Throughout the year we offer educational seminars for families impacted by neurodegenerative illness. Past seminars have included: Making Sense of Memory Loss, Living Well with Lewy Body Dementia, Living Well with Alzheimer’s Disease, and Living Well with Frontotemporal Dementia. These seminars are designed to help families and loved ones find resources and support, learn strategies for coping, and overall gain an understanding about how to live better with a Dementia diagnosis.

Memory Loss support groups

We offer support groups that work together to provide support for people with memory loss and their caregivers. The Memory Loss Support Group provides support for caregivers of people with memory loss, while the individuals with the memory loss may attend the recreational group at the same time.
