HealthEast is passionate about excellence in nursing. Our one-year residency focuses on supporting new registered nurses as they make the crucial transition from academics into the practice setting. It’s required for all newly graduated registered nurses and optional for those who have been working in long-term care or select other settings for less than a year – and it’s designed to foster confidence. We’ll provide the mentorship, resources and skill-building you need to learn how to deliver high-quality, compassionate care for your patients and their families.
With three hospitals, one long-term acute care hospital, 14 clinics, home care and hospice services, we offer a variety of settings for you to develop the clinical and leadership skills you’ll need to advance in your career.
Your guides on this journey will be nurse educators, who use a combination of lectures, activities, simulation and hands-on skills labs to provide education and practice. You will have core courses that focus on your specialty, delving into patient conditions, assessment and management, as well as skills and interventions. You’ll also join your fellow registered nurses in the classroom once a month for sessions on “real life” professional nursing practice, including important conversations, delegation and critical thinking.
Our unit orientations vary depending on your skills and the unit and specialty. During the course of your orientation, you’ll meet with unit leaders, a primary preceptor and your mentor. Your mentor will provide encouragement, support and resources – not only during your first year of nursing, but afterwards as well.
At HealthEast, our nurses drive improvement processes and best practices, and as a resident, you will too. All of our residents complete an improvement, evidence-based project, or research project. You’ll have the opportunity to help us advance nursing excellence – and our vision of optimal health and well-being for our patients, our community and ourselves.
It’s the people who make the difference at HealthEast. No matter your area of expertise, you'll contribute to the innovative and compassionate care we provide each and every day. Visit our jobs site to search for open positions and apply.
