Pneumonia: Pneumococcal Vaccine

Percent of Pneumonia Patients Who Receive a Pneumococcal Vaccination

Percent of Pneumonia Patients Who Receive a Pneumococcal Vaccination

What the graph is saying

For this measure, higher percentages are better. The graph above shows that St. Joseph's is consistent with the Minnesota average, and HealthEast, St. John's and Woodwinds are above the Minnesota average.

You can compare all hospitals' performance at the United States Department of Health & Human Services Hospital Compare web site. Its data will be slightly older than the data reflected on the HealthEast web site.

Why is this measure important?

The pneumococcal vaccine may help you prevent, or lower the risk of complications of pneumonia caused by bacteria. It may also help you prevent future infections. Patients with pneumonia should be asked if they have been vaccinated recently for pneumonia and, if not, should be given the vaccine.
