Who is at Risk for Prostate Cancer?

If you are a man, have not been recently been checked for prostate cancer and can answer "yes" to one or more of the following questions — you should make an appointment with your doctor for a prostate cancer screening.

Are you over the age of 50?
Are you African American?
Do you have a history of prostate cancer in your family?
Have you ever had an abnormal (or elevated) prostate specific antigen (PSA)?
Are you experiencing a weak urine stream, discomfort while urinating or other abnormal urinary complications?

According to the American Cancer Society, men age 50 and older and those over the age of 45 in high risk groups, should have a prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test and a digital rectal exam (DRE) once every year.
