Capistrant Parkinson’s Center at Bethesda Hospital Names Jawad Bajwa, MD, as Medical DirectorDr. Bajwa comes to Bethesda Hospital from the Cleveland Clinic where he was nationally recognized for his leading edge work in the diagnosis and medical/surgical treatment of neurodegenerative and movement disorders including Parkinson's Disease, Huntington's Disease, Tourette syndrome, and dystonia. Dr. Bajwa is one of a few movement disorder specialists who is also fellowship trained in micro-electrode recording of various targets in the brain for deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery. This intra-operative technique generates a physiological map of the brain for patients undergoing DBS surgery. Dr. Bajwa also is involved with the selection of surgical candidates and post-operative programming for DBS patients. "I am looking forward to partnering with current staff on supporting and growing the Center's programs and services," Dr. Bajwa said. "Together, we will work to build the foundation for earning center of excellence status and for expanding our ability to attract patients beyond the east metro area." A graduate of the King Edward Medical College in Pakistan, Dr. Bajwa completed his internship at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and his residency at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
