Preparing for Birth - Online Course

Online childbirth education is a unique alternative to Preparing for Birth classes that are held in the classroom. Our online option provides the same information, but lets you complete the course at your own pace, at your own computer.

Then, during one in-person class, you'll go over breathing techniques and get questions answered.

Whether you're having a baby at St. John's Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital or Woodwinds Health Campus, this class was designed to meet your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

I can’t see the information. What could be going on?

Your "pop-up" blocker may be turned on. To view the class, this must be turned off on your computer. For other computer questions, e-mail support@vubiz.com.

How do I register for the online class?

Click here to register. If you have questions about registration, contact support@vubiz.com.

What if I purchase the online class and can’t get it to work on my computer?

If needed, you can switch to a Preparing for Birth class that is held at the hospital. You can choose either the five-session course or the "Weekender" class. Please contact us at childbirth@healtheast.org for more information.

What if I decide that the classroom sessions would be a better fit for me?

Please see the answer to the previous question.

How can I get the most out of online childbirth education?

There's a lot to learn as you prepare for childbirth, so it's important to take your time. Don't rush through the information. The more carefully you read it, the more prepared you'll be for your baby's birth and the first weeks of your baby's life.

The entire series takes about three hours to complete. We recommend that you carefully read through one or two sections at a time. Take notes if you'd like and jot down any questions for the childbirth educator.

To check your knowledge, complete the exercises and test in each section. Please also complete the survey at the end of the course.

How long can I access the information?

When you sign up for the online course, you will have 90 days to access it. During that time, you can review the information as often as you'd like. If you need more than 90 days, contact support@vubiz.com and request an extension.

What happens during the in-person class?

After finishing the online childbirth education, it's important to attend the in-person class session. During the 2 ½ hour class, you will work with a childbirth educator in a small group setting to:

  • Review the information you learned online
  • Learn breathing techniques
  • Get your questions answered
  • Tour the Maternity Care department

In-person classes are held at St. John's Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital and Woodwinds Health Campus.

How do I register for the in-person class?

When you register for the online course, you will choose the date and location for your in-person class.

What if the in-person class I’d like to attend is full or the date doesn’t work for me. What can I do?

You can attend an in-person class at any of our hospitals - no matter where you plan to give birth.

If your class is at another location and you'd like to tour the hospital you'll be delivering at, call HealthEast Maternity Care to schedule a tour at:

  • St. John's Hospital - 651-232-7550
  • St. Joseph's Hospital - 651-232-3022
  • Woodwinds Health Campus - 651-232-0228

What if I have questions about the material when I’m going through the online class?

You can e-mail questions to childbirth@healtheast.org. There will also be time set aside to answer your questions at the in-person class.

What should I do if I have feedback on the online class?

Your opinion is important to us. After you've completed the modules (sections), please fill out the survey at the end.
