In an 8-hour session, BLS courses teach:
Health care providers including physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physician’s assistants, residents/fellows, medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, and other allied health personnel.
This 8-hour course teaches lay rescuers how to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies. These include cardiac arrest and for choking adult, child and infant victims.
Students also learn to recognize the warning signs of heart attack and stroke in adults and breathing difficulties in children.
The course is geared to those such as day-care employees, babysitters, firefighters, police, airline personnel, security guards and family members of those at high risk for sudden cardiac death.
