The Dragon Divas

Boats What a grand day of racing we had Saturday, August 22, 2009, in Superior, Wisconsin! Beautiful sun-filled skies, great hosts, gracious competitors and loyal family and friends to cheer us. And your Superior Divas team delivered! At the awards ceremony the Dragon Divas received a "Superior Paddle" for winning the Cancer Survivors category. Awesome racing, Divas!

In our first race in the morning we were off to a great start and holding our own against three co-ed teams when close to the half-way mark the team on our right started veering dangerously toward us. Just a few strokes away from our crew t-boning the crooked-running boat, the officials signaled to halt the race and our stern, Robin (who had our ship straight-away on the course) yelled "hold water" and indeed the Divas did, allowing the other boat to sail right in front of us. Back we went to start again with the offending boat (Two Dragons) receiving a 20 second penalty. We finished our first race with a 2:37 time on a 450 meter course! Our afternoon race pitted two other Cancer Survivor teams (all women) against the Divas. We had a good start and ran an excellent race, powering and finishing the last 75-100 meters to overtake the other two at the end. It was a fabulous feeling Results to paddle past the very large electronic scoreboard and see Dragon Divas at the top with a time of 02:37.18, followed by the Survivor Sisterhood at 2:40.77 and Team Survivor Madison at 2:42.19. I don't think we could have paddled, drummed and steered a better race!

We had three candles lit on Friday and Saturday remembering our Diva sister, Cheryl, our Diva sister, Edie and all others who are struggling with disease and for all Divas who LIVE STRONG.

Thank you to the team who worked and played hard in Superior, to our loyal and cheering family and friends who made the trip north and to our Diva-sisters back home who cheered for us from afar. Life is good!
