Accurate, safe and painless
With sub-millimeter accuracy, the CyberKnife® Radiosurgery System safely delivers precisely targeted radiation beams to cancerous and non-cancerous tumors. At the HealthEast CyberKnife Center, we've treated more than 1,500 patients.
CyberKnife can treat a tumor virtually anywhere in your body. Thanks to its pinpoint precision and accuracy, CyberKnife can achieve a surgical-like outcome, without surgery. It is a safe, painless outpatient procedure that doesn't carry the risks and complications associated with conventional surgery. See how CyberKnife compares with other cancer treatments.
The CyberKnife system locates the tumor in your body using sophisticated imaging technology. Your doctor then utilizes CyberKnife computer technology to evaluate the unique shape and location of your tumor and determine how to target it with up to 1,200 radiation beams.
During treatment, CyberKnife accurately delivers the very concentrated beams to your tumor from multiple positions and angles. Its precision leaves your healthy surrounding tissue unharmed. And CyberKnife continually checks and corrects for any body movement, even your breathing, during treatment.
Comfortable, awake, relaxed — ready for normal activity
CyberKnife is more patient-friendly than other stereotactic radiosurgery systems. With some systems that treat only tumors of the head and neck, a metal frame is screwed into your skull. That head frame remains attached to the patient during the entire process — while initial imaging scans are taken, as a treatment plan is developed and during treatment. That process can take a day or longer and can be extremely uncomfortable.
CyberKnife has changed all that — it requires no metal frame and no anesthesia as other systems do. Instead, while you lie comfortably on the treatment bed you are fitted with a more comfortable flexible mesh mask for tumors in your head, or a body cradle for spinal tumors.
The result is a painless procedure with minimal side effects and virtually no recovery time. You are awake and relaxed through your entire treatment session, which takes anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes. Afterward, you are free to leave. You will probably feel good enough to resume your normal daily activities.
