Thanh Huynh, MD, has been a family medicine doctor at the HealthEast Macalester/Groveland Clinic since August 2004. He is board certified in family medicine and enjoys working with patients of all ages. Dr. Huynh graduated from Bethel College in St. Paul and Ross University School of
Medicine in Edison, NJ. He completed his residency in St. Paul.

In his spare time, Dr. Huynh enjoys cooking, reading, tennis, fishing and camping.

What made you decide to practice medicine?

"I've always been interested in medicine. I found being a doctor is a way to interact with the community and help people with their medical issues. I chose family medicine because it lets me work with patients of all ages and with a variety of medical conditions."

Why did you choose HealthEast?

"I chose HealthEast because I wanted to be a part of an organization that carries the same values as I do. These include: offering compassionate care, listening and partnering with patients to ensure optimum health care. I chose the Macalester/Groveland Clinic because it's a small clinic that cares for a great community."

What's the most important thing you tell your patients about staying healthy?

"I believe preventive care is very important. I educate my patients on how they can best take care of themselves throughout the years. I also feel it's important to explain how to take care of health issues after they leave the clinic. I encourage patients to ask questions at their visit, to make sure they have a good understanding of their treatment."

What advice do patients ask you for most often?

"My patients come to me about a variety of issues. I see conditions ranging from earaches to managing diabetes. There isn't a specific kind of advice I can pinpoint because it varies with each patient."

What do you think your patients value most about you?

"I believe my patients value my ability to listen to their medical issues and provide appropriate treatment. I encourage my patients to be a part of the treatment decision and then we solve problems together."
