Mary Kempf

Mary Kempf, CNM

Certified Nurse-midwife
HealthEast Roselawn Clinic &
HealthEast Woodbury Clinic

Mary Kempf, CNM, joined HealthEast in March 2002. She received a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in midwifery from the University of Minnesota. She is certified by the American College of Nurse-midwives and her practice interests include well woman care, caring for women throughout childbearing years and teaching obstetrical classes.

What made you decide to practice medicine?

"I decided to become a nurse-midwife after working for 10 years as a labor and delivery nurse, and seeing the profound impact giving birth has on women. I feel very privileged to assist women through this important time in their lives."

What is your hometown?

Prior Lake, Minnesota

Why did you choose HealthEast?

"I liked the philosophy of faith-based care and respect for human dignity that is part of the HealthEast mission statement."

What is the most important thing you tell your patients about staying healthy?

"Exercise more and try to cut out a lot of processed foods. Have fun with your family, but also make time for yourself."

What advice do patients ask you for most often?

"I commonly get questions about birth plans. I tell them our job as midwives is to help them have the kind of birth experience they want to have. It is their birth, and we are there to help them make safe choices for themselves and their babies."

What do you think your patients value most about you?

"My sense of humor; I laugh at myself a lot.  Also, a calm voice during the 'storm' of labor contractions. It gives them something else to focus on."
