Preparing for Birth: 5-week

Prenatal Class

This five-session course is designed for the first-time parent. Become an active participant in your birth. We’ll help you and your support person prepare for labor, birth and the post-partum period. Topics include:

  • Stages of labor; interventions; birth

  • Tour of Maternity Care Center

  • The support person’s role

  • Initial infant care and feeding

  • Relaxation and breathing (bring pillows), comfort measures
  • Preparing for Birth classes are for weeks 24 through 40 of your pregnancy. Plan to complete the class/series of classes a minimum of 3 weeks before your due date.

    Preparing for Birth is also available in Spanish. To schedule, please call 651-793-3803.

    The St. John's classes are held at the Maplewood Professional Building, 1655 Beam Ave., near the hospital. Classes meet in the Watson Education Center, located in suite 202.

    Materials:

    Bring two pillows and a blanket (optional) to each childbirth class You may bring your support person. Childcare is not available.

    Registration:

    To register, call HealthEast Women's Care at 651-232-8080 to register with a credit card, or download and mail a registration form. Class sizes are limited and registrations are prioritized by date received. Early registration (at least 12 weeks before class date) is encouraged.   Last date to register for this class is December 30, 2009.
