DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Come learn more about our world as Syrian native and St. Joseph's intensivist Wael Khouli, MD, summarizes his recent visit to medical facilities in Turkey and Syria at a brown bag lunch, noon to 1 pm, Friday, January 11, in the 3M Center at St. Joseph's Hospital. The crisis began March 2011 when the Syrian government tried to suppress political unrest. It has escalated into violent conflict, creating a humanintarian crisis including a flood of refugees, internally displaced people and substantial loss of life. Dr. Khouli saw the crisis first-hand and the toll it has taken on the people of Syria.He will give a brief historical background of the country and an overview of the medical resources available to the Syrian population in government- and opposition-controlled areas.
