Family Medicine Residency Program at St. Joseph’s

Through the Family Medicine Residency Program at St. Joseph's Hospital, you'll join us in providing quality, patient-centered health care.

St. Joseph's is known as a family-friendly hospital and a technically sophisticated facility. Working with a variety of subspecialists, you'll have access to a wide range of patient and case experience and the opportunity to learn the latest techniques and technology from some of  the best physicians in the field.

St. Joseph's provides expert care and cutting edge technology. We are home to HealthEast Heart Care, the National Brain Aneurysm Center, CyberKnife Center (with the first CyberKnife in the Upper Midwest) and much more.

Our work culture and lifestyle foster low staff turnover and high resident and physician satisfaction. With no competing residency programs at the hospital, our entire focus is on the Family Medicine Residency Program.

Why St. Joseph’s?

  • As Minnesota's first hospital, we have been providing compassionate care to our community for more than 150 years.
  • The organization has been named the "Best Hospital Workplace in Minnesota" and one of the state's "Great Places to Work."
  • A Gallup survey rates HealthEast very high in employee engagement.

A broad range of experiences

We offer many exciting electives for residents, including training at the International Diabetes Center, Hazelden drug rehabilitation center and sports medicine sideline experience at the USA Soccer Cup. Another popular option is training for one month in an international setting. Early in their training, residents gain important insight into ICU care through our Fundamentals for Critical Care Support course.

Supportive, collaborative environment

From administration to the medical staff, St. Joseph's is a supportive and collaborative learning environment. Everyone is available to teach, support, listen and lend a hand to our residents.

Work/life balance

St. Joseph's values the balance of personal and professional life. We offer social and personal support, including:

  • Humane call schedules
  • Social opportunities, such as a residents' softball team and bowling nights
  • Family-focused opportunities, such as the parental elective, when new parents can focus on a home-based, parental research project

A new St. Joseph’s

St. Joseph's recently expanded and renovated. The upgrades promise residents an enviable learning and patient care environment.
