As one of the country’s fastest growing health care specialties, our Hospitalists are at the heart of our hospitals. As a system, HealthEast has three acute care hospitals and one long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) and is the largest health care provider in the Twin Cities’ East Metro area. And while each site has its own distinct atmosphere and personality, we are confident that whatever site you choose to take your professional journey with, you’ll find it to be challenging, energizing and truly rewarding.
A welcoming environment
Here at HealthEast, we believe what sets our Hospitalist opportunities apart are the unique environments we work within. Hospitalists have a true voice in the care of their patients, as well as the support of full-time Nurse Care Coordinators at whichever hospital you may choose. As a result, great employee, physician and patient satisfaction scores follow, and national audiences are noticing—we were recently ranked as a Top 10 Health System in the Nation by Thomson Reuters as well as a Top 100 “Best Places to Work in Healthcare” by Modern Healthcare. To view a list of all accolades, please go here.
A flexible atmosphere
Whether you join one of our Hospitalist programs in a full-time, part-time or casual capacity, we pride ourselves on providing you with the flexibility to make a difference whichever hospital you choose. From a varying shift structure and integrative therapies to outstanding leadership opportunities (all our current Medical Directors were promoted from within), HealthEast is a place where Hospitalists come—and stay.
A hospital to call home
Each Hospitalist is initially recruited for one of four teams (Bethesda, St. Joseph's, St. John's or Woodwinds), but all function as one team—the HealthEast team. Physicians are conveniently credentialed and privileged to work anywhere in the system. Cross-site opportunities are available, but there is no requirement to work at more than one site.
The programs include:
St. Joseph's Hospital
St. Joseph's is a 300-bed tertiary hospital in downtown St. Paul with a Hospitalist program that was established in 2004. It has since developed into two different teams: Acute Care and Addiction Medicine, with a close connection to a specialized Neuro Critical Care Unit. Hospitalists in our brand new facility work a 7 on/7 off schedule and enjoy a community hospital like feel with the acuity and activity of a large city hospital.

St. John's Hospital
St. John’s is a 184-bed community hospital located in Maplewood, Minnesota, a suburb of the state’s capitol: St. Paul MN. The Hospital is the community’s primary health care resource and offers a wide variety of services. The Hospitalist program formally launched in December of 2009 and has grown rapidly to include more than 18 Hospitalists. The program works at a 7 on/7 off schedule and boasts strong relationships with the community of referring Primary Care Providers and includes an open ICU.

Bethesda Hospital
Bethesda is a 137-bed long-term acute care hospital, one of only two long-term acute services in the state of Minnesota. The patients are of the highest acuity in the Twin Cities area. With an average patient stay of 30 days, we offer the opportunity to really reinvent lives. Like our other programs, the schedule is 7 on/7 off, however, there are no evenings or nights required.

Woodwinds Health Campus
Woodwinds is an 86-bed community hospital with specialty emphasis in Orthopedics, Maternity and Emergency Care. With a high-tech and high-touch atmosphere, 90% of all patients are managed by Hospitalists. Acting as leaders in metrics, length of stay, quality and hand-offs of communication, they also have strong support from a non-physician staff of NPs and Nurse Care Coordinators. Woodwinds is also proud to have been recently named a Top 100 Hospital National Ranking by Thompson Reuters.
