HealthEast's Nurse Residency Program helps new graduates smoothly transition from student to successful practitioner. Get details about the program.
I hear that HealthEast gets a lot of applicants for this program. What are the selection criteria used in deciding who will be phone screened and/or interviewed?
The selection criteria for these positions includes:
- Graduate of either a BSN/BAN program, entry-level MSN program, or currently enrolled in a BSN completion program
- Previous health care experience (with less than one year of RN experience)
- Areas of clinical interest
- GPA
- References
As a new grad RN, may I apply to RN positions that are outside the Residency Program?
Because we believe so strongly in providing adequate support and resources to new RNs, we do not consider new grads for positions outside of the Residency Program. Standard RN positions require either a minimum of six months acute care experience (one year is preferred) or one year of RN experience in another type of patient care setting (transitional care or LTC is preferred).
The Nurse Residency requisition is posted without a specific unit, shift or number of hours. When will I find out which units have positions and which shifts they are on?
The Nurse Residency Requisition may reflect several positions, and may not be specific for a unit or shift. Generally, the Nurse Residency positions are between 48-64 hours every two weeks. The nursing units will vary depending on our hiring needs at the time but are most often medical surgical units. The shifts could be day/evening; straight evening; day/night or straight night shift. If you are selected for a phone screen, the recruiter will ask you about the shifts and hours you are able to work.
Can I apply at a different site after the orientation?
One of the advantages of a health care system like HealthEast is the ability to move within the system. We ask that new grads stay in their initial position for at least one year before moving.
How do I attach my letters of reference and transcripts?
You do not need to submit your letters of reference and transcripts at the time you apply. If you are selected for a phone screen, we will e-mail you an electronic template to submit your references. Your GPA should be noted on your resume and plan to bring a copy of your transcript to your interview.
