Highly qualified, certified therapists provide evaluation and individual treatment plans for persons with brain disease, brain injury and other neurological conditions. Physical, occupational and speech therapy are all offered with a referral order from your physician. Bethesda also offers a highly effective respiratory rehabilitation program for people needing assistance with managing their respiratory needs and life activities.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists evaluate and treat a person to maximize their independence with daily activities such as self are, work and leisure skills. They also specialize in memory loss evaluation, certification in BIC therapy for Parkinson's disease related diagnoses, specialized hand splinting to prevent hand deformities/contractures and certified in Saebo splint - a splint used to regain hand function with hemiplegia.
Physical Therapy
Physical therapy will assess and develop a treatment plan with a person to help you regain maximum independence. Physical therapy specializes in neurorehabilitation therapy for brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury and other neurological conditions. Mobility and balance assessment for fall prevention, LSVT BIG techniques for treatment of mobility impairment related to Parkinson's disease and other related movement disorders. Comprehensive assessment and treatment of concussion related signs and symptoms exertional assessment/return to play following a concussion, mobility device prescription and power/manual wheelchair assessment.
Speech Therapy
Speech pathologists provide evaluation and treatment in the areas of communication, cognition and swallowing. Communication can include speech and voice, receptive and expressive language, and nonverbal means of communication through assistive technology devices. Speech pathologists also evaluate and treat cognitive skills that are necessary for daily living. Bethesda also provides treatment for swallowing disorders, including VitalStim therapy - an electrical stimulation used with traditional swallow therapy techniques to stimulate the muscles of swallow. Our Speech Pathologists provide specialty services through the Assistive Technology ADVOCATE Program, Bethesda's Concussion Clinic, Brain Injury Services, Capistrant Center for Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders, and general outpatient services.
Respiratory Rehabilitation
Individuals attend two-hour sessions three times a week for a six-week period. Respiratory, physical, and occupational therapy is provided as the person participates in individual exercise, strengthening and educational program. At the conclusion of the program patients may join an ongoing support and exercise groups.
