Patient Story: Kim Valois |
|
Young at heart…that's how Kim Valois saw herself. So, the idea of climbing up to her children's tree house didn't seem like such a big deal, until she lost her footing and fell 20-25 feet. Kim suffered several broken ribs and vertebrae, a broken shoulder blade, and a severe concussion. She was taken to a local hospital; during her stay there, she developed pneumonia. After two weeks in intensive care, she was discharged to Bethesda Hospital, physically weak and suffering from short-term memory loss. Bethesda’s brain injury services department worked to help Kim regain her memory. She was moved by the therapists' direct, positive approach and their can-do attitude; her happiest moment on her road to recovery was when she was able to recognize her children.
