Patient Story: Don Obernolte |
|
In October 2007, Don Obernolte, then age 49, was almost crushed to death by a 1,700-pound tree. Following emergency surgery at a Twin Cities Level One trauma hospital to save his life, Don's next critical stop was at Bethesda…to reinvent his life. Don's injuries included multiple fractures to his left-side collarbone, shoulder blade/joint and rib cage, and right-side leg and ankle. He also suffered a bruised heart and a stretched aorta; a tracheotomy was helping him breathe. Don spent six weeks at Bethesda involved in intensive physical, speech, occupational, and art therapies that retrained his body as well as his mind and spirit. Today, he has returned to home community, his family and his career.
