Patient Story: Carol Kraft |
|
On April 4, 2011, Carol Kraft went to a hospital for a routine surgery. She nearly died. A week after her surgery, she had some complications that resulted in needing emergency surgery. During the emergency surgery, she had a lot of complications. She aspirated, and nearly didn't make it off the operating table. As a result, Carol suffered from pneumonia and was in a medically-induced coma for three weeks. Then she was transferred to Bethesda Hospital. When she arrived, she couldn't walk, talk or write her name. But she wasn't going to give up. "My team of doctors at Bethesda were absolutely fabulous with me," says Carol. "They really got to know me." Thanks to everyone at Bethesda, Carol slowly rebuilt her life -- one step at a time. Her first step started by dragging her toe on the ground, and more than three months after surgery, Carol was able to go home.
