Patient Story: Bob Manteuffel

On a cold February night in 2008, Bob Manteuffel’s life was forever changed. While driving to a restaurant with his wife, he suffered two strokes.  Luckily, they were able to safely pull into a parking lot and call for help. Bob was first transported to St. John's—and then to St. Joseph's Hospital—for emergent treatment. After discharge, he couldn't walk and his speech was affected. So, Bob was referred to Bethesda Hospital where he spent two weeks as an inpatient. He credits a "never give up" attitude on the part of the speech and physical therapists, as well as his own commitment to putting in a first rate effort, for his solid recovery. Today, Bob (who is retired) and his wife, spend time traveling, playing golf, and enjoying their grandchildren.
