HealthEast Clinics and William Walsh, MD are pleased to announce that Dr. Walsh and his practice (formerly Adult and Child Allergy) have joined HealthEast. The clinic remains in the University Park building on the HealthEast Midway Campus.

The speciality of allergy

An allergist designs treatment for people who suffer from illnesses caused by the foods they eat and the dust mites, mold, pollen and animal dander in the air they breathe. These allergies can cause many symptoms. They include chronic stuffiness of the nose and ears, headaches, nasal drainage, hay fever, abdominal pains and diarrhea, hives, eczema and many other illnesses.

About Dr. Walsh

Dr. Walsh was trained in allergy at the Mayo Clinic. Following this training, he passed an examination certifying him as a specialist in allergy, a certification that is recognized by the Board of Internal Medicine and the Board of Pediatrics. He has been named a Top Doc by Mpls/St. Paul Magazine seven times.

Dr. Walsh is a clinical professor at the University of Minnesota and member of many professional groups, including the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the American Association of Certified Allergists.

Dr. Walsh is fascinated by all aspects of allergy, especially conditions that he shares with his patients, such as chronic sinus infection (chronic rhinosinusitis), complicated food sensitivity and recurrent sinus and migraine headaches. He enjoys writing about allergy in his books and newsletter.

According to Dr. Walsh, "For many patients, living with allergy is like living with the aching and tiredness of a never-ending flu. Allergists can relieve these symptoms and our patients deserve this relief."

About your first visit

On your first visit, we will ask you questions about your symptoms to help identify the allergies that bother you. We will perform skin testing to confirm the causes suggested by your history.

One of our nurses will perform the skin test. They describe the test as it is performed, and tell you the results as they appear.

The skin test helps explore the causes of your allergies; it points out the pollen, dust mites, mold, animal dander and foods that bother you today or may bother you in the future. Patients often ask whether the skin test hurts. You will experience
some discomfort, but the test it not painful.

After the examination and testing have been completed, we will discuss your treatment. At times, the results of your examination will point to causes
that you can avoid. Sometimes you cannot avoid these causes.

If medicines do not give you sufficient relief, we frequently use allergy injections to help you. These injections do not provide immediate relief; their effect gradually increases as you continue to receive them.
