What if I can’t pay my hospital bill?
Medical bills are often unplanned and can be difficult to understand. In addition, you may not be prepared to pay for these expenses. HealthEast Care System has Financial Counselors and Social Workers who can help. Please do not hesitate to ask for them while you are here, or call them at:
Medical Assistance (Medicaid)
Our Financial Social Workers can assist you in determining if you might be eligible for Medical Assistance or any other state or federal programs. You will need to complete an application and provide supporting documentation to determine if you qualify. We can assist you with completing an application if needed.
Charity care
Funds may be available from HealthEast Care System to assist you with your medical bills. Patients earning up to 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines may be eligible for financial assistance. You must first apply for and be denied Medical Assistance. You will need to complete a Charity Care Application and provide supporting documentation. We can assist you with completing an application if needed.
Uninsured patients
Patients who do not have any health care insurance, and who do not qualify for any state, federal, or other financial assistance program, may be eligible for an uninsured discount. A Financial Counselor can help you understand if you qualify and any discounts that may be available.
Payment plans
The balance on your account is due within 30 days of your statement. Please contact Customer Service at 651-232-1100 with any questions.
Past due accounts
It is important for you to know that Federal and State laws require all hospitals to seek full payment of what we bill patients. That is why, if, after all reasonable efforts have been made to establish financial assistance, other funding sources or a manageable payment plan, and you fail to follow through with your financial responsibilities, HealthEast Care System may refer the account to a collection agency.
